The year 2015 is a very important one for Nigeria. This is because the Nigerian General Elections are scheduled to hold in February 2015. These elections will probably be the most keenly contested in the country at all levels. This is due primarily to the fact that the political landscape has evolved greatly moving away from single party dominance to more or less a two party system where both leading parties have national representation and influence.
The motivation for preparing this document is to provide readers with basic information about the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory which would provide a good foundation for understanding and following the 2015 General Elections. This is the first of the 2015 General Elections’ Updates to be prepared by Election Monitor. These updates will be published each month until and immediately after the conduct of the elections.
