INEC Inaugurates Joint Technical Committee on Electronic Voting System



On Wednesday 16th August 2017, INEC inaugurated its Joint Technical Committee on Electronic Voting System. 

The terms of reference for the committee are as follows:
  1. Present the E-Voting needs of INEC and present a compilation of requirements for INEC's successful deployment of a suitable e-voting solution. 
  2. Evaluate the e-voting solution offered by NASENI  in the light of the use  of INEC.
  3. Assess the operational, social and technical issues, associated with an e-voting system in Nigeria in the light of the NASENI solution.
  4. Consider the implication of extant electoral legal framework in Nigeria for the introduction of e-voting generally and particularly the NASENI solution.
  5. Evaluate the suitability of the NASENI e-voting solution in the light of other available solutions. 
  6. Consider any other issue relevant to INEC's choice and deployment of an e-voting solution including the timing of such deployments.
  7. Submit a comprehensive report for consideration by both NASENI and INEC.

Members of the committee are: INEC Director ICT,  Chidi Nwafor  (Chairman) ; INEC Director Voter Registry,  Iro Gambo; INEC Director Voter Education & Publicity, Oluwole Osaze Uzzi; INEC Director of Electoral Operations, A. T Yusuf; INEC Director Planning & Monitoring, Okechukwu Ndeche; INEC Director Legal Services, Mrs. Oluwatosin Babalola; INEC Deputy Director ICT, Mr. Pascal Ukaenwe; INEC Deputy Director Voter Registry, Mr. Tony Nyema; and INEC Assistant Director ICT, Mr Moses Naiya. Other members from NASENI and Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) are Abbas Gummi; Mr. Leon Alibo; Mr. N. Pawa, Dr. P. I.Okwu, Dr. Suleiman A. A, Abdulkareem Umar, Samuel Kehinde, Yakubu Aliyu Doma and Mohammed Abdulazeez Aliyu, while Abimbola Oladunjoue and Anthonia E. Idemudia, both of ICT Department, INEC, would serve in the committee’s secretariat.
