PRESS STATEMENT – ELECTION MONITOR CALLS ON THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) TO URGENTLY REVIEW THE 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Election Monitor has reviewed some of the recent elections held in Nigeria. Election Monitor believes that based on its own assessment the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should urgently review the 2019 Nigerian General Elections.

Election Monitor had previously prepared and submitted a report to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the 2019 General Elections. However the 2019 report did not analyse governorship elections individually as well as not focusing on the critical area of analyzing the declaration of results which if done wrongly could comprise an entire election even if the election was well administered.

Election Monitor recommends that INEC should urgently review these elections to ascertain the veracity of the analyses above. The Commission should then take all necessary legal, operational and administrative steps to ensure that where proven such infractions are comprehensively addressed to improve future elections and that all those responsible are held accountable according to Nigerian Law.  

Election Monitor felt it necessary to do an audit analysis of these elections as a Nigerian organization that is committed to the promotion of good governance.
